UNAB Stands Out in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 with Strong Performance Across Multiple Fields

Universidad Andrés Bello (UNAB) ranked among Chile’s top 10 universities in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 in disciplines ranging from the humanities to the exact sciences, reinforcing its progress in academic excellence, research, and international collaboration.

UNAB achieved strong results in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, further consolidating its presence in this international assessment, which evaluates higher education institutions across a wide range of academic disciplines.

In this edition, UNAB ranked among Chile’s top 10 universities in six subject areas: Education, Arts and Humanities, Chemistry, Medicine, Physics and Astronomy, and Computer Science. These results reflect the university’s broad and consistent presence across fields that are essential to scientific advancement and professional development.

Overall, UNAB performed particularly well in indicators related to the impact of scientific publications and the strength of international research networks across multiple disciplines, as well as in academic reputation and employer reputation.

Carolina Torrealba, Dean of Research and Doctoral Studies at UNAB, welcomed the results, stating:

“This recognition in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 reflects the sustained efforts of our academic communities to strengthen impactful research and advanced education.

It is especially meaningful to see different fields of knowledge advancing in a coordinated way, building international networks and contributing to the country’s development through the generation of knowledge.”

Chemistry, Physics, and Astronomy

UNAB achieved its strongest result in Chemistry, ranking fifth nationally and 17th in Latin America among the institutions evaluated. In Physics and Astronomy, the university ranked seventh in Chile and 27th in Latin America.

In Chemistry, UNAB ranked fourth nationally in academic reputation. In Physics and Astronomy, it ranked fourth nationally in the international research network indicator.

“The performance of our School in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, as well as in other international impact assessments, reaffirms UNAB’s position as a leading institution in basic science,” said Pierre Romagnoli, Dean of the School of Exact Sciences.

“These results reflect scientific maturity on a global scale. This leadership is further reinforced by the Scimago Rankings, which position us as Chile’s leading private non-traditional university in high-impact scientific output.

In Mathematics, we achieved seventh place nationally in the Scimago Rankings 2026, further strengthening an ecosystem of excellence. Being the leading private non-traditional university in these areas demonstrates that our investment in talent and scientific infrastructure is helping transform science in Chile.”

Education, Arts, and Humanities

In Education, UNAB ranked sixth nationally and 17th in Latin America, with particularly strong performance in employer reputation and research-related indicators.

In Arts and Humanities, the university ranked ninth nationally and achieved outstanding results in research metrics. UNAB ranked first in Chile for citations per paper and third nationally in both international research networks and H-index.

For Erika Castillo, Dean of the School of Education and Humanities, part of a university’s mission is to cultivate disciplines through research and the generation of new knowledge, “while also educating and engaging with others while recognizing the arts and humanities as part of culture and as opportunities for development.”

“In the case of education, advancing its development as a field of scientific inquiry helps us better understand educational processes in all their specificity and complexity. It reflects progress achieved with depth, long-term vision, and a commitment to excellence as an institution.”

Medicine

In Medicine, UNAB ranked seventh nationally and 32nd in Latin America. The university performed particularly well in academic reputation and international research networks, where it ranked sixth nationally. It also ranked seventh nationally in citations per paper and employer reputation.

“This result in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 reflects the sustained strengthening of our School of Medicine in research, specialist training, and academic development,” said Dr. Patricio Burdiles, Dean of the School of Medicine.

“We have made significant progress in building impactful research teams and strengthening connections with clinical and scientific networks, enabling us to contribute meaningfully to addressing the country’s healthcare challenges. This ranking reflects an academic project that combines excellence, growth, and a strong commitment to educating highly qualified professionals.”

Computer Science

In Computer Science, UNAB ranked eighth nationally and 38th in Latin America, with particularly strong results in research-related indicators. The university ranked third nationally in international research networks, fourth in H-index, and fifth in citations per paper.

UNAB’s results in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 reflect the university’s institutional commitment to strengthening research, academic quality, and international engagement, further consolidating its contribution to the advancement of knowledge in Chile and around the world.
