UNAB Ranks Second Among Chilean Higher Education Institutions for Perceived Sustainability

Universidad Andrés Bello (UNAB) ranked second among the higher education institutions evaluated in Ipsos’s Corporate Sustainability Perception Index (IPSE), reinforcing public recognition based on environmental performance, social impact, and governance practices.

UNAB ranked second in Chile’s Education category for perceived sustainability, according to the results of Ipsos’s 2026 Corporate Sustainability Monitor (MSE), one of the country’s most comprehensive studies on the subject. UNAB ranked immediately behind Universidad de Chile and ahead of the other higher education institutions evaluated.

The result is particularly significant because the study is not limited to environmental performance. The MSE uses environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria, an international framework that evaluates public perceptions of organizations across three dimensions: environmental performance, social impact, and governance quality.

To develop the ranking, Ipsos collected 25,000 evaluations from a sample of 5,000 people and analyzed 100 organizations operating in Chile. The methodology considers attributes such as contributions to the country’s development, support for communities, fair treatment of employees, inclusion and diversity, transparency, corporate ethics, personal data protection, and environmental initiatives, among other factors.

Among Chile’s Most Highly Rated Organizations for Sustainability

In the overall ranking of the 100 organizations evaluated, UNAB received a score of 613 points, placing it among the organizations with the strongest perceived sustainability in Chile and well above the study’s national average of 593 points. In the Education category, it ranked second, behind only Universidad de Chile.

Ana María Pavez, Provost of Universidad Andrés Bello, said the recognition reflects a comprehensive view of the University’s work.

“This result makes us proud because it reflects public perception and recognizes an understanding of sustainability that extends far beyond environmental protection. At UNAB, we seek to generate a positive impact through the education of our students, research, community engagement, and institutional management grounded in transparency, inclusion, and responsibility,” Pavez said.

“Being recognized among the educational institutions with the strongest perceived sustainability in Chile strengthens our commitment to expanding our contribution to the country’s development and to the communities with which we work every day.”

The Ipsos study also shows that the public increasingly associates sustainability with social and governance considerations. In fact, the social and environmental dimensions received the highest scores in the overall index, reflecting a broader understanding of the concept and growing expectations regarding the role organizations play in society.

Ignacio Guerrero, UNAB’s Dean of Outreach and Alumni, said the University’s standing reflects the work undertaken in recent years to integrate sustainability across all institutional areas.

“Sustainability is one of UNAB’s strategic pillars and an integral part of our institutional identity. This recognition reflects appreciation for our efforts to contribute to sustainable development through education, knowledge creation, and community engagement,” Guerrero said.

“ESG criteria encompass environmental, social, and governance considerations. This result therefore reflects a comprehensive view of our performance and how the community perceives our contribution to addressing the country’s current challenges.»

Ipsos’s 2026 Corporate Sustainability Monitor also concludes that trust and credibility are increasingly important factors in how organizations are evaluated. In this context, UNAB’s standing in the ranking is a positive indication of how the public perceives its contribution to society, commitment to sustainable development, and alignment between its institutional purpose and actions.
