UNAB Ranks Among the Top 300 Global Institutions in Sport Sciences, According to the Shanghai Ranking

The School of Rehabilitation Sciences at Universidad Andrés Bello (UNAB) and its Institute of Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences (ICER) have entered the prestigious Shanghai Ranking in Sport Sciences. This recognition underscores the institution’s growing international visibility and research impact.

Universidad Andrés Bello has reached a historic milestone: its School of Rehabilitation Sciences, through ICER, is now listed among the top 300 institutions worldwide in the field of Sport Sciences, according to the Shanghai Ranking of Sport Science Schools and Departments.

This international distinction highlights the quality and impact of the research carried out by the School and ICER, positioning them as rising contributors in the global sport science research community.

“This recognition builds on our momentum and reflects the high quality of our research. We will continue generating knowledge, one of the core objectives of our Development Plan, to contribute meaningful evidence to the field of Sport Sciences,” said Dr. Christian Campos, Dean of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences at UNAB.

What Does This Ranking Measure?

The Global Ranking of Sport Science Schools and Departments evaluates research performance in sport and exercise science. It uses objective bibliometric indicators, including:

  • Scientific publication output
  • Citation impact
  • Journal quality (with an emphasis on Q1-ranked articles)
  • International collaboration, reflected in co-authorship with foreign institutions

“This ranking focuses on research excellence, visibility, and international reach. It enables standardized comparisons of top academic units in sport and exercise sciences worldwide,” explained Dr. Rodrigo Araneda, Director of ICER.

A Globally Relevant Achievement

Founded in 2022, ICER has secured a place in this highly competitive ranking in just three years—demonstrating strategic development and accelerated research capacity.

The recognition validates the strength of research in key areas, including exercise science applied to health and rehabilitation, neurorehabilitation, mental health and cognitive rehabilitation through movement, and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. It also affirms UNAB’s standing among leading institutions generating scientific evidence in the field.

Future Challenges

Maintaining this position will require consistent scientific productivity and high-quality research publications, along with continued investment in collaborative and interdisciplinary projects.

“Our challenge is to keep producing high-impact research while also integrating knowledge and methods that drive more innovative and effective responses to pressing health and rehabilitation challenges,” concluded Dr. Araneda.
