UNAB Ranked Among Chile’s Top Five Universities and 38th in Latin America and the Caribbean in the CWUR 2026 Rankings

The ranking, published by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), evaluates seven indicators of institutional performance grouped into four areas: education (25%), employability (25%), faculty quality (10%), and research (40%).

For the fifth consecutive year, Universidad Andrés Bello (UNAB) ranked among Chile’s top five higher education institutions in the CWUR 2026 Rankings, published by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), among the 19 Chilean universities included in the assessment.

Notably, UNAB climbed 31 positions globally compared with the previous year, reaching 1,098th place worldwide. The university also advanced five positions in Latin America and the Caribbean, ranking 38th and placing among the region’s top 40 institutions.

These results place UNAB among the top 5.2% of the more than 21,000 universities evaluated worldwide.

In Chile, the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile ranked first (421st globally), followed by the University of Chile (465th), the University of Concepción (877th), Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (1,022nd), and Universidad Andrés Bello (1,098th).

Among Chile’s private non-traditional universities, UNAB ranked first in the CWUR 2026 Rankings.

Commenting on the results, UNAB President Julio Castro said:

“This recognition reflects the sustained efforts of our academic community and confirms that we are moving in the right direction to strengthen our position as a university of excellence, with a meaningful impact on both the education of future professionals and the generation of knowledge.

At the same time, being among the five best universities in Chile and among the top 40 institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean motivates us to continue building for the future, strengthening our research capabilities and incorporating new tools and technologies that accelerate scientific discovery, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and expand our contribution to the development of the country and society.”

About the CWUR Rankings

In the 2026 edition of the CWUR Rankings, 21,291 institutions worldwide were evaluated, and only the top 2,000 were included in the final ranking.

The CWUR (Center for World University Rankings) methodology is based on a quantitative approach that evaluates universities without relying on surveys or data submitted by the institutions themselves, using exclusively objective indicators that are globally comparable.

The ranking analyzes four broad dimensions: quality of education, graduate employability, faculty quality, and research performance, seeking to measure actual outcomes rather than perceptions or reputation.

To do so, it uses seven indicators with specific weightings: education (25%) and employability (25%), based on graduates’ academic and professional success; faculty quality (10%), measured through academic distinctions; and a research component (40%) that considers scientific output, high-quality publications, research influence, and citation impact.

In terms of performance by indicator, UNAB maintained its position compared with the previous edition, retaining fifth place nationally in research and seventh place nationally in employability.
