The results of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2022, also known as the Shanghai Ranking, were recently released. The Shanghai Ranking is one of the world’s most cited and recognized academic rankings. For the fifth consecutive year, Universidad Andrés Bello ranked among the four best institutions in our country and the top 1,000 in the world.
This measurement, prepared annually by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, ranks over 2,500 universities worldwide and selects the top 1,000. The evaluated categories are «Quality of education» (weighted 10%), «Academic performance» per capita of each institution (10%), «Quality of the academic staff» (40%), and «Research results» (40%).
«This ranking is one of the most prestigious worldwide because it measures quality and scientific production criteria,» said UNAB President Julio Castro. «It is no coincidence for Universidad Andrés Bello to be recognized; for years, as an institution, we have opted for research as one of the fundamental hallmarks of our educational project,» he said.
The President explains that UNAB is one of the few Chilean universities that currently conducts research in all areas of knowledge, «this shows that our focus on excellence and the generation of new knowledge is not just a statement, but a guide for our priorities that is transferred to the training we provide to our students,» he added.
UNAB: a commitment to excellence
In our country, the ranking is headed by the Universidad de Chile, followed by the Universidad Católica. Universidad de Concepción is also included, sharing its position with Universidad Andrés Bello. It is noteworthy that, among these national institutions, UNAB is the only non-traditional private institution and the youngest, with just 33 years of operation.
In the 2022 Shanghai Ranking, Universidad Andrés Bello stands out in the category that measures the number of highly cited researchers. UNAB shares the first national place with Universidad de Chile in this category. UNAB also achieved outstanding positions in the categories that measure the number of publications in the Nature and Science journals and the number of publications indexed in the Science Citation Index-Expanded and the Social Sciences Citation Index belonging to the Web of Science. The Ranking also highlights the institution’s per capita academic performance.
This comes in addition to the results obtained in a publication last month by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, in which UNAB was ranked among the 150 best universities in the world in the field of Veterinary Sciences, along with Universidad de Chile and Universidad Austral.
«We are proud of our academics and researchers,» says Julio Castro, Universidad Andrés Bello President, adding that these results «demonstrate our commitment to generating positive impacts on the society in which we operate and that today, as a private university oriented towards excellence, we are making a difference in our country and globally.»
