Sadid Hasan Envisions the Future of Learning with AI at Universidad Andrés Bello
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming higher education. In the opening webinar of the “Education of the Future” series at Universidad Andrés Bello (UNAB), Microsoft expert Sadid Hasan showcased how this technology is enhancing teaching and learning — while also presenting new challenges.
Hasan, Director of AI at Microsoft and recognized as one of the 100 most influential AI experts in the United States, delivered the inaugural lecture in the “Education of the Future” series, organized by UNAB’s Digital Transformation Office.
During his talk, Hasan shared his perspective on how AI is reshaping global higher education. “Education is the foundation of everything,” he stated, emphasizing that AI is not only transforming the world of work but also changing how we acquire and share knowledge.
Hasan explained how AI technologies can enhance teaching in tangible ways, such as through automated grading, faster development of instructional materials, and early identification of students with specific needs. “This allows more time for what really matters: personalized mentoring and the development of critical thinking,” he emphasized.
The impact on students is equally profound. Hasan highlighted several key advances:
- Personalized learning tailored to individual learning speeds
- AI assistants available to answer questions instantly
- Borderless education through real-time translation
Personalization, Efficiency, and Collaboration
Hasan further described how AI enables content to be adapted to each student’s learning style, supports real-time progress monitoring, automates administrative tasks, and assists with academic planning.
However, he stressed that these opportunities must be approached with care.
“Humans are the drivers — we’re behind the wheel,” he said, highlighting the importance of designing AI systems that are fair, trustworthy, inclusive, and privacy-conscious.
Among the challenges posed by these technologies, Hasan emphasized the need to protect data security, reduce bias, and prevent a digital divide that could exclude certain groups. “We need to learn how to use these tools, understand their limitations, and provide feedback that helps improve them.”
Leading in Educational Innovation
Hasan concluded the webinar with a forward-looking view: smaller, more efficient, multimodal models capable of understanding different languages, tasks, and cultural contexts. “The system we use today is the worst we’ll ever use—because tomorrow there will already be a better one,” he concluded.
This event reflects UNAB’s leadership in innovation, not just by following global trends but by actively shaping them through its Office of Digital Transformation. The “Education of the Future” series aims to bring top international voices in technology and education into dialogue with the academic community.
