CWUR 2025 Ranking: UNAB Among the Top 5 in Chile and Top 50 in Latin America and the Caribbean

Once again, the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) has positioned Universidad Andrés Bello (UNAB) among the top universities in Chile and the region. In the latest edition of the ranking, UNAB ranks fifth nationwide, 43rd in Latin America and the Caribbean, and first in Chile among non-traditional private universities.

Each year, CWUR publishes a list of the world’s top 2,000 universities, and it is now considered one of the most comprehensive academic rankings for evaluating institutions of higher education.

In this year’s edition, UNAB maintained its position as fifth among Chilean universities and 43rd in Latin America and the Caribbean. It also continues to lead as the top-ranked non-traditional private university in Chile.

In response to these results, UNAB President Julio Castro stated:

“This result in the CWUR ranking confirms once again that we are on the right path – and progressing consistently. It reaffirms UNAB’s commitment to academic excellence and to conducting research that addresses societal challenges and seeks to make a meaningful contribution.”

“It also demonstrates our forward-looking vision. We are focused on preparing highly employable, top-tier professionals capable of meeting the demands of a globalized, tech-driven, and dynamic world. We are expanding our reach across borders – as seen in our acquisition of Post University in the United States and our internationalization efforts – and we are investing in world-class, modern infrastructure that enables our students, faculty, and researchers to reach their full potential. As a university, we will continue to advance decisively along this path of excellence – contributing meaningfully to the country’s development and to the well-being of future generations.”

Among Chilean universities, the top spot in the CWUR 2025 ranking went to Pontificia Universidad Católica (ranked 415th globally), followed by Universidad de Chile (453rd), Universidad de Concepción (861st), and Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (996th).

Meanwhile, Universidad Andrés Bello rose 16 places globally, reaching rank 1,129 – placing it within the top 5.3% of universities worldwide. Notably, only 18 Chilean institutions were included in this global evaluation of 2,000 universities.

At the global level, Harvard University remains in first place, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, and the University of Cambridge.

About the CWUR Ranking

The CWUR ranking has steadily expanded its reach. In its 14th edition, nearly 21,000 institutions were evaluated worldwide – and only the top 2,000 are included in the published ranking.

CWUR’s methodology is based on four key indicators:

  • Education (25%)
  • Employability (25%)
  • Faculty quality (10%)
  • Research (40%)

Importantly, this evaluation is unique in its approach – it does not rely on surveys or data provided by the institutions themselves. Instead, it independently assesses performance across these four areas using objective criteria.

In terms of individual metrics, UNAB maintained its prior-year performance – holding fifth place nationally in research and seventh in employability.
