Andrés Bello University Ranks Among the Top Four Universities in Chile in the 2024–2025 URAP Ranking
The University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) measures academic quality through research output across 3,000 higher education institutions worldwide. Among the 29 Chilean universities evaluated, Andrés Bello University (UNAB) ranked fourth nationally.
URAP, compiled by the Informatics Institute at the Middle East Technical University in Turkey, includes 29 Chilean universities among the 3,000 institutions evaluated worldwide.
UNAB ranked fourth nationwide, rising one position from the 2023–2024 URAP edition. The top three positions were held by Universidad de Chile, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad de Concepción.
Focus on High-Impact Research
UNAB President Julio Castro emphasized the significance of the result: “This achievement reflects the ongoing commitment of our faculty, researchers, and staff to academic excellence and high-quality research.”
He added, “Without a doubt, this motivates us to keep moving forward, with a focus on high-impact research and meaningful contributions to society through various programs and initiatives.”
Dean of Research and Doctoral Programs Carolina Torrealba also noted: “This result reaffirms the virtuous cycle driven by the University’s institutional commitment to generating new knowledge. High-quality research and the creation of public goods that have a measurable impact are essential to our contribution to Chile.”
Understanding the URAP Methodology
In the 2024–2025 URAP ranking, UNAB placed 1,127th globally. The ranking evaluates six academic performance indicators, primarily based on publication data from Web of Science and InCites. The methodology incorporates both the quality and quantity of scientific publications and assesses international collaboration in research.
The six indicators include:
- Article: A measure of current scientific productivity based on articles published in journals ranked by Impact Factor
- Citation: Assesses the impact of research output
- Total Documents: Reflects the continuity and sustainability of research productivity
- Article Impact Total (AIT): Gauges the overall impact of a university’s scientific publications
- Citation Impact Total (CIT): Measures the total influence of cited works
- International Collaboration: Evaluates the extent and performance of cross-border research partnerships
URAP offers a multidimensional ranking system with broader coverage than many other international rankings. In the 2024–2025 edition, the top-ranked institution was Harvard University, followed by Université Paris Cité, the University of Toronto, and University College London.
This global context highlights the significance of UNAB’s national standing and growing international presence.
